GENERAL QUESTIONS

Our chicken raised for meat (broilers) are organic. That means their feed is organic and they are also pasture-raised resulting in a wonderful combination for quality and taste. See above for requirements on organic certification.

Our eggs from chickens (layers) are not organic.  That means their feed is not organic.  They are free-range which means they have full access to during the day to forge and explore and return to the coop at night to roost.

No we do not use antibiotics in our feed. Our organic feed is void of pre-medications, supplements and animal by-products.

In addition to whole chicken, we offer boneless breast, drumsticks, thighs and wings. All are with skin on. We don’t offer butchering services and therefore are unable to provide custom cuts (e.g. 8-10 pieces).  Contact us if you are interested in special request such as neck, feet, gizzards.

Two requirements must be met in order for meat to be acceptable for consumption in the Islamic faith.

Traditional halal meat is slaughtered by hand quickly and humanely and must be blessed.

We are proud to achieve halal certification with HMA since 2019.

Free-range, cage-free and pasture-raised are all terms used to describe unrestricted access to the outdoors.  Whether you’re interested in animal welfare or food quality, how chickens are raised is what matters. This means healthy conditions such as access to daily sunlight, pasture and water and results in better quality meat – you can truly tastes the difference.

 

Raising poultry to meet organic standards is not as simple as providing high quality, organic feed free of antibiotics, supplements and animal by-products.

We are mandated to raise our flocks “responsibly, with care and consideration. Stress, injury and suffering shall be minimized in all livestock handling practices, including transport and slaughter.”

This includes clean, living conditions that accommodate the health and natural behaviour of animals such as fresh water on demand, access to the outdoors, protection from the elements, rotational pasture, exercise areas, fresh air and daylight.

We must also adhere to restrictions around chemicals used whether it be housing, bedding, cleaning and any materials that the chickens may be in contact with upto and including transport and harvest.

We are excited to be the first small-scale farm in Ontario that is certified organic since 2019.
